La Colombe pride is a humanitarian organization in the form of a non-profit organization created on June 6, 2012 in Goma; it was legally registered on March 4, 2022 under “Provincial Order No. 01/061/CAB/GP-NK/2022”, province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, then by F92 N°. JUST/SG/20/3902/2022 issued by the Ministry of Justice and the Keeper of the Seals. The creation of this organization was motivated following human rights violations against sexual minorities in the North Kivu province.
Having a weakness for human rights, we were stung by the discrimination and its corollary stigma that sexual minorities in general and the LGBTIQ+ community in particular face in this part of the country.
Already victims of social exclusion, these human beings suffer repeated arbitrary arrests because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.
Their living conditions are precarious and the fact that their rights are not respected exposes them to vulnerabilities, notably HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. As human rights defenders and activists we strive to help them as best we can.
